My Digital Studio Flower Card

I’m starting to get the hang of my graphics pen and the Corel Painter program! This card is another all digital creation from SU! My Digital Studio! I’ll try to get down all the steps for it …. hard to do after the fact! 😉

The first step is to export the Friends 24-7 Flower image from MDS to a jpg. Save it in a location you will remember!! I usually drop it on my desktop. Open your coloring program – I use Corel Painter Essentials on my MacBook with my Bamboo – graphics pad/pen. Open your new jpg. My favorite selections are paint bucket and the watercolor brush so far! The watercolor brush gives a nice broad sweep of color.

My flowers are four different colors: yellow, light orange, pink and lavender (selected from my crayon palette) If I find a color is too dark or light, I use the spectrum instead and adjust the color that way. The branches are green with lavender shading.

Once colored I save as a jpg, once again on my desktop. I open MDS and browse my images. Drop in your newly colored image and start building your card! I used a standard 5 1/2″x4 1/4″ format. The following is all the digital stuff I used:

My Digital Studio Flower Project:

My Sweet Pea Designer Paper

Rock-a-Bye Certainly Celery Stripe DS Paper

CS Soft Suede

CS Pacific Point

CS Whisper White

CS Kraft

Hodgepodge Hardware Styled Silver Brads

Friends 24-7 – flower (digitally colored in Corel Painter)

Thank You Kindly stamp

The celery striped paper was digitally cropped into strips and offset from each other. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to “crop” the strip from the ‘layer’ of designer paper. Copy and paste this layer until you have the number you want – offset them from each other and then select all and group. Now you can move them together.

As soon as I figure out how to paste MDS pics for this stuff I will ….

King of the Grill in My Digital Studio

I just love this set from Stampin’ Up! and as a demonstrator I am always looking for ways to be creative! I just downloaded my MDS stamp set King of the Grill and decided to “color” the image in with my Corel Paint program. It turned out pretty good for a first time attempt. My wacom graphics tablet and pen helped tremendously!! I tried last night to color it in with the mouse – about drove myself crazy! Yikes!

So here is my digital card “King of the Grill” just in time for Father’s Day – done all digitally! Once my image was colored in, I saved him as a jpg and used him as an image in My Digital Studio. Worked like a charm! Now I’m off to see what else I can color in digitally from the amazing selection of images in MDS!!!

Digiscrap Pages!!!!

Ok, now I’m really in trouble!!!! I went over to Prima Hybrid and ordered a BUNCH of digiscrap stuff!!!! I’m sooooo excited …. ok, this is a scrapbook page I just made (in about 10 minutes) with some of the sets I downloaded: Letters from the Patio by Dianne Rigdon, Techno Grunge Graphic Frames by Meredith Fenwick and background paper from Damask Dream Sweet Page set by Dianne Rigdon. It’s all digital Baby!!! I am a complete beginner in digital scrapbooking and my page turned out great! Such a nice surprise and an exciting new horizon for me to explore!digi_friends.jpgThe above picture is me (on left) with one of my closest friends (and cousin-in-law) Shawna! Aren’t we just two cuties? Ok, can you tell I’m excited … go check their site out – they have some freebies to “try it out” …. I just couldn’t resist making another page! This one below is me with my sister. I used more of the sets I downloaded today! I use Big Swirl News by Trish Jones, One Season by Vera Lim, A Little Magic 1 by Vera Lim and I think that’s it!sisters2.jpg**edited to add credit for the Sisters font: Alpha Gem Silhouettes – Fleurish by IOD at Prima Hybrid***

Digital Scrapbooking 2

I think I’m hooked! Recently we inherited a light table and I had taken some pictures of the kids playing on it … well, the shots were dark and kinda blurry …. but I just loved the “in the moment” look – so what to do? This picture of Elina is one I decided to keep … she is totally immersed in her drawing and I had tried to capture that “glow” off the table! The digital element that really made this photo for me was the brush tool – I selected a glowing star that became the “magic” off of her “wand” …. I then figured out how to add a black border to ‘zoom in’ on her moment. I even managed to sharpen up her image ….. I’m really happy with the final result and can’t wait to learn more as I play with digital scrapbooking! (and perhaps improve my photography skills). Happy Creating! – Melinda

Digital Scrapbooking

Digital scrapbooking has caught my eye! I am brand new to the whole concept and it has been fun discovering all the new things I can do with it! Thanks to Corinne’s awesome blog – I discovered this cool new blog (to me) where I downloaded my first digital brush set!!!! Check it out!!!! They are having an awesome February Freebie every day!!! www.sistvboutique.com – my digi brush set was $1 by Melanie Moor: 7210.jpg

Ok, so here are my first digiscrap attempts:

This first picture is of my daughter – she just recently had her first haircut – 10 inches!!!! So this is a reminder of how long it was plus the “fairy wings”. She just LOVED this picture when I was done!!!!

This next one is of my son during Christmas. We were making paper star decorations. He wanted the black fairy wings but I am still too new at it to show them off on black background … he thought the pic was cool but wasn’t too sure about the “pretty” wings!

Lots of fun!!!! Go check out the freebies – it’s only through February! Happy Creating! -Melinda

A Fun Hostess Gift

hostesscandle1.jpg

Ok, so I got home at 11:30pm last night …. so didn’t get a card ready to post! 😉 However, I did get some shots of my hostess gift for the workshop! This is a fun and easy gift to make someone special! I used SU! products to create this little gem. My center on the candle comes together quickly with an On Board Blossoms & Basics Chipboard Flower with retired SU! DS Paper adhered to it – sand the edges and sponge with Chocolate Chip Ink. The center is more retired DS paper punched out with the 1 3/8″ Circle Punch. I then set a jumbo eyelet in the center using my Crop-A-Dile and adhered it directly to the candle by pushing a Rhinestone Ice Brad into the candle through the center of the Jumbo Eyelet. Retired SU! ribbon from Christmas is wrapped around and holds the flower in place. My Sticky Strip keeps everything secure but for an added measure of security, I pushed in three copper brads in through the ribbon and candle. The coaster is covered with the same DS papers, sanded and edged with Chocolate Chip Ink. Fun and easy … something special for my hostess!

Healing Journal

I love creating handmade books, journals and mini albums! I think my favorite by far was a handmade blank journal I created for my mom. I bound watercolor pages with bamboo sticks (the ones you use for skewers) – it was really cool – and very flexible! I need to borrow it and take a picture to post! Anyways, to the point here… I created a healing journal for myself when I needed to take a step back and reassess my life. I had been working fulltime (plus) for Boeing and had just been laid off (for a second time). I felt pressure to fill the void with more work. But I found that I maybe didn’t want or desire that type of work (industrial engineering – very technical, geeky work). I wanted to flourish as an artist, musician … fulfill dreams from my childhood! So this little journal was a promise to myself! Just the motions of creating it was enough to open forgotten doors and take chances I never had the nerve to take before! So I took the photos of myself, created the covers, accordian fold pages and found inspirational quotes to match the photos. I embellished it with personal items (totems) throughout … so if you find yourself in need of healing – make yourself a personal visual journal – I’d love to see what you come up with! -Melinda
